In recent years, Tunnel du Grand-Saint-Bernard SA has once again adapted the road tunnel – which was opened in 1964 – to modern safety standards with a safety gallery, among other things. This gallery, which runs parallel to the road tunnel, serves to safely evacuate people from the driving area in case of a fire.
